IWC stands for International Watch Company, started in 1868 by Florentine Ariosto Jones, an Boston American with Experiences working for E. Howard watches. Jones wants to produce high quality Swiss watches for American market. The company was taken by the Schaffhausen family from 1905-1955. Many of the IWC vintage watches still has IWC Schaffhausen on their dial. Today, IWC is part of Swiss Richemond Group, still producing world’s highest quality watches. In 1878, Bailey Banks and Biddle a great American Jewelry Store was created from partnership by Joseph Bailey II, George Banks, and Samuel Biddle. The Bailey Banks and Biddle was an extensive jewelry store in Philadelphia, USA. Many great watch makers like Concord, Paul Ditishiem, Longines, Patek Philippe, and IWC produced high quality watches for Bailey Banks and Biddle to be sold at their stores. The company was so successful that it was also know to produce patriotic Congressional Medal for the United States, to be treasured by honorable Americans for all eternity. The current version of The Seal of the US was designed by Bailey Banks and Biddle. This American IWC Classic military Calvary Style watch produced for American Jeweler Bailey Banks and Biddle, under IWC’s Schaffhausen family ownership. The 1940 was just the beginning of WWII and military Calvary style was the most desirable for gentlemen style of such decade. Golden Hash Brown toned Dial, The dial is in original aged rich gold tone patinas color. Dial is inscribed Bailey Banks and Biddle. The case design is stainless steel Military Calvary style with after market inscription on case back “R.F. Hall-lock, 015134”. 015134 is probably the military unit number. Case back is snap clam type with in-house inscription “Stainless *Steel*, International Watch Co., Switzerland, 0162029”. 0162029 is IWC’s production number. The movement is a manual wind caliber 83, recently cleaned, oiled, and timed by a watch mechanic. The movement is currently running strong and keeping accurate time, in-house inscription “International Watch Co.”. There are light scratches on case and crystal. The crystal is original with aged internal stress cracks. The lumes on the hour hand is missing. The watch is all original mens full size of 31mm in 1940’s standard. This watch will come with an old vintage style green canvas military band.
